More Logos More
Brand design is a big passion of mine, although it is not the field I am more comfortable in.
Nevertheless I was surprised that my first batch of logos published was one of the best viewed projects here and on the Behance Network.
That pushed me to collect a few more works, specially the ones created this year.
Although all have been commissioned, not all have been used (shame). So in order to preserve the contractual contents, I kept the designs but have changed the brand name.

Pass It On More
It has been now nearly a year since I started my adventure in graphic design and illustration.
This project compiles a few things that I learned from the books I have read, people I met, work I have done, mistakes I have made and everything in between.
After all, knowledge is useless if you don't share it.
The book covers six subjects, each in a loose booklet. The booklets are packed on a cardboard jacket with a circular hole that allows the book to have six (slightly) different front covers.

Authentic Mr Red More
MR is a redhead in London who could be just an ordinary guy. However, looking closer no one is ordinary.
Last year, I printed one of his sayings on a shirt and everyone liked it so much that I thought about doing a series.
In mid-February, the project took off and within a couple of weeks the sayings had some derivatives, such as variations of logo designs and some related items to MR’s universe.
The designs transcended and shirts and were printed on some collateral stuff such as cards, stationery, mugs and so on.
The volume of projects created in these couple of weeks was so much that I decided to create a website just for this project, and will be on until the 15th of March.
Until it is ready, you can check out here some of the projects created so far.

Chalk Alphabet More
This is part of a project to design a latter a day.
All the letters were actually designed in the same day.
For inspiration I ran over some old Dover books.
Each letter has a different styling, but I plan to pick one particular and design a whole vector set upon it.
So if you have a minute to spare, drop me a line an tell me your favourite.

Love More
As I have previously mentioned on the blog tab, a few years ago I was in a band and I still absolutely love the material I wrote back then.
This project has no greater pretention than to just share this song that happens to be my personal favourite.
It is an unusual approach to love: It talks about being frightened by the feeling of losing control, of not knowing exactly what’s happening inside.
I firstly thought about working on a single poster. However, the use of so many typographic styles wouldn’t work very well if put together on the same sheet.
I also thought about making it more colourful, but again, it is meant to be very raw, so the simpler the better. However, I added some colour to some sheets when it was crucial to emphasize the message.

More Shirt Sayings More
This is my second contribution to the Shirt Sayings, and this time it was easier because I am more aware now of the company’s philosophy.
It is no secret that I love typography and handmade designs.
Having both combined on the same project is just about as fun as it can get.
As usual, I added some elements but made them very subtle in order not to let them distract from the sayings, which are the focal poin on each design.

Colibri More
‘Colibri’ is Spanish for hummingbird. The logo was a request from a friend who runs a small bird shop.
I liked subtle lettering that I designed to go with it, and decided to develop the whole alphabet.
The project took me a couple of weeks and before I knew it I had the whole set.
I kept going and then I had the numbers and some special characters, all in five weights and also in italics. And then I got carried away and designed also the in-lines.
TThe final result is a font family that works well both as display and text type.

Everything Changes More
This project was originally designed for a shop window and is rather different from what I usually showcase.
The butterflies would represent the changing of seasons and welcome the new Spring collection.
Although unused, I decided to finish it just for the fun of it.
It took me a few time to handcraft all the butterflies and place one by one to shape the sentence.
The final result is very subtle but gracious, and it really invites the viewer to come and take a closer look.
-
Shirt Sayings More
This set was commissioned by a tee-shirt company.
They only sell type based designs, mostly sayings or quotations (all very cool).
I contributed with handmade lettering because it gives a very personal and unique touch to the shirts, in opposition to all computer generated prints.
-
Title More
This series of posters was a ‘hidden’ gallery on my about tab and it's, as the title says, some small facts about me.
I was surprised that viewers were actually seeing it and saying that I should make it easier to be found as many could relate to them.
I then redesigned the posters and in order to make it more personal I did all the lettering by hand.
-
Tees More
Another ‘hidden’ set. The one featuring on the website was a last minute thing, designed to give a few more information about me.
The original idea was to edit the sayings as tattoos.
Although it was an interesting concept, the final result felt kind of fake.
Then I’ve decided to keep it simple and just went for a handmade redesign.

LogosMore
The design of logos (as well as brand identity development) is one of my favourite activities, and it was only fair to share some of my work in this field as well.
The use of a varied palette of colours is one of the main features of my work; however I opted to showcase them all in greyscale only in order to make it easier for anybody to focus on the shapes.
For now, it's a brief summary of what I've done the past couple of years.
I will, however, be posting more pictures of all and more samples to show how each has been used.

Gertrudes e Seu Homem More
'Gertrudes & Her Man' is a short film about a woman who is so deeply in love with her husband that kindles other women's desire for her mysterious man.
The poster should summarize the key elements of the film, without giving away much of the history.
Two different concepts were tried: one purely illustrative and another with the use of photos, which was the one that best reflected the movie's overall concept.
The final work was also used to illustrate all other promotional material.
-
Boogie Typography More
For the 'We Can Boogie' project, I decided to design myself the typeface instead of using any 70's themed one.
It gave me more freedom in the design process and also helped to make clear that it wasn't a themed party, but actually a very contemporary and urban event.
The curly details are purely inspired by the Disco fashion.
It brings back to the 70's, while yet being very current.
The typeface was used on the logo, and I design some additional material to showcase on which it was applied is too good not to be shared.
-
At The kitchen More
A few months ago I was asked to design a wall mural to bring some colour to a kitchen which was rather lifeless.
The idea was to add some colour without darkening or changing the general aesthetics of the house.
I was given a found illustration for the theme, and I had the freedom to make any needed modification and add elements to it in order to make it fit the best possible on the kitchen wall.
It took me a couple of days to finish, and after the paint was completely dry I applied a coat of clear varnish to protect it and make it washable.
-
Concrete Butterflies Typography More
The layering of colours and textures is the hallmark of the 'Concrete Butterflies' album series and the main titles needed a typeface to go with that style.
The letters should be easy to work with colours and textures without compromising the legibility.
So, the non-asymmetric paper cut stile was the perfect match.
The end result is quite a harmonious set that keeps the basic characteristics of the illustrations and still works well with Signika – used to complement the graphic project.
-
Stay Typography More
'Stay With Me' was one of my first works conceived as series.
The first version had a different typography for each sentence and the overall result was mostly satisfying.
However I chose to draw a whole new alphabet based on the typography used in the first image of the first version of the series.
The typography style works great as a sequence of phrases as well as single setences.
The end result is much lighter and more consistent.
